U.S. Maritime Action

U.S. Maritime Action Goals

Promote growth of U.S. commercial shipbuilding to 2% market share.

The United States should create maritime policy that allows it to capture at least 2% of commercial shipbuilding orders in the world (currently producing about 0.2%). A strong shipbuilding industry helps boost the economy, secure our ocean commerce, and bolster our national security.

Grow the oceangoing Jones Act and international 🇺🇸-flag fleet to over 500 ships.

There are less than 200 ships in the combined Jones Act (domestic) and international U.S. flagged fleets. The U.S. currently utilizes 97% foreign flagged ocean shipping which leaves the country vulnerable shipping disruptions.

Discuss and promote methods to grow the U.S. Navy to its congressionally mandated size of 355 ships.

The U.S. Navy is currently facings headwinds trying to grow is fleet over 300 ships. The target size was set by congress in 2017, yet the Navy continues to shrink in size. This problem has been exacerbated by failures in U.S. shipbuilding and ship repair and needs to be fixed urgently for national security.
